DCC stocks WD Red drive for SoHo NAS systems

Distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) is now delivering Western Digital’s (WD) RedNetwork Attached Storage (NAS) hard drives. The Red drive is an innovative line of SATA hard drives with intellipower technology specifically designed for home and small office NAS systems with one to five drive bays. Compatibility-tested with top NAS box manufacturers and optimised for power and performance, WD’s Red hard drives are available in 3.5-inch 1 TB, 2 TB and 3 TB capacities.

“With the rising demand in data storage, and the capacity requirement for TBs, the WD Red hard drive provides loads of data storage and is designed to run more efficiently in 24/7 environments, ensuring no overheating whilst delivering stable performance. The availability of WD’s Red hard drives is filling a niche requirement for NAS storage for the Small Medium Enterprise (SME) market,” says Zandré Rudolph, retail manager at DCC. “This will allow our resellers to expand on their offering to existing clients and will also allow them to further deliver NAS solution to small to mid-sized businesses.

NASware technology is specifically designed to improve reliability and system performance, reducing downtime and simplifying the integration  process of these hard drives in a NAS environment. WD’s Red hard drives cater for the growing demand for affordable, reliable and compatible storage that reduces the total cost of ownership. WD Red hard drives feature 3D Active Balance Plus, an enhanced balance control technology, which significantly improves the overall drive performance and reliability.

"With the development of the WD’s Red drives, an optimised product has been designed catering for the growing NAS segment. Previously, desktop or high-end server drives for home or small office NAS systems were not cost effective for the consumer, says Rudolph.

WD Red hard drives integrate seamlessly with WD NAS solutions and are qualified to work with a wide array of WD OEM partners.

The WD Red drive is available from resellers and come with a limited 3-year warranty. The WD Red drive retails for approximately R999.00 for 1TB drive, R1 399.00 for the 2TB drive and R1 899.00 for the 3TB drive. Prices are inclusive of VAT.
